2nd semester!
I have been a little preoccupied apparently and completely skipped posting this semester. Well I am done with my second semester which means I am finished with the first year of nursing school!!! :) I made an A and 2 B's this semester which puts me at 3 A's and 4 B's the first year!! I am definitely pleased with my work so far. I am always going to strive for more but I am happy that I am able to keep my grades where they are with my life outside of school being as busy as it is. :)
I also went to a national student nurses association (NSNA) conference in Pittsburgh this year, and let me say if you have never been to one they are extremely worth it! The resolutions that other schools and individual students make are impressive and directly affect the field of nursing and the curriculum in nursing schools. They are basically like laws but not in the sense that you have to abide by them or anything. It's simply a suggestion or idea that people would like the NSNA to back so that we can make a difference in the future of nursing. And the best part is that select individual students from each school is allowed to vote on these resolutions and be part of the difference. There are also 'focus groups' of mini info sessions each day about multiple topics such as ER nursing, global nursing, psychiatric nursing, pharmacology made easy, etc. Which are fascinating and extremely helpful. There are main speeches from professionals in the field that are also informative and inspiring. And can't forget the hundred plus vendors and colleges handing out freebies and information on jobs and advanced degrees. All in all a grand experience I can not wait to repeat! And there are state ones each fall that should be just as useful! :) It opens your eyes to the vast world of nursing and makes you passionate about your future career all over again!
Going to take a much need break over the summer and then dive into the rough semester of Med-Surg and OB in August. I haven't had a summer off in almost 3 years so I will be doing a lot of nothing! :) I plan to review pharmacology and pathophysiology during my break to make sure I have a solid foundation and I would suggest anyone else to do the same. And don't wig out about second semester... its not bad at all just getting over the newness of clinicals is the worst part and its a piece of cake! :) Everyone says that after 3rd you start to feel like an actual nurse so just keep your head up and keep going, it will all be over in no time. My SIL is graduating on Saturday from the same program I attend and it is hard to believe that she is already done! Good luck to all of you and enjoy your summers! will see you next semester!
